I never thought I would have so much fun watching a basketball practice. The season can't come soon enough. I've already printed out the year's schedule and am chomping at the bit to watch the first preseason game.
Two plays in this video really illustrate why Caitlin is so hard to deal with. 3:50 she calls for a screen from Nalyssa… Nalyssa’s man has to switch to Caitlin who gives him a hesitation like she’s going to shoot the three… he goes for it and she blows by him. Celeste’s man has to help on Caitlin who immediately finds Celeste in the corner for a wide open three. At 5:40 Caitlin gets a screen from Boston and gets the switch… Boston rolls and Samuelson’s man has to help down so Caitlin whips a pass across her body to Samuelson for another wide open three. Caitlin’s threat from deep, her pacing with the ball, and her court vision result in a LOT of open shots for her teammates…
This team has shooters to deal with. They can shoot. Caitlin looks very strong here. Those passes are unbelievable. The Fever will be fun to watch for the next few years.
@@frankiek2269 Rebounding is important. Fever already had Boston 6'5", and Smith 6'4" bigs and picked up Fagbenle 6'4" and Samualson 6'3" who plays like a big. Now Taylor ACC defensive player of the year '22 and '23, and B10 defensive player of the year '24. And Clark was no slouch with 950 rebounds at Iowa (just 158 fewer career rebounds than Cardosa). And to top it off, all six of these outstanding rebounders are shooters, which Reese is not. I agree with you that the Sky got what they needed for their organization, so did the Fever. It will be a fun ride watching it all come together this year (I can't believe I'm saying this, I've never watched a live WNBA game before, just reruns!!).
One thing I've noticed, because they haven't started running offensive plays yet, is that when Erica is point and Caitlin is a #2 shooting guard she just stands in the corner on the left side of the basket waiting around for the ball or to grab a rebound. They need to start developing some offensive plays where the guards penetrate and circle around causing some havoc for the defenders.
you're welcome. And I agree.... so much growth in store with this bunch. They get only five practices before their first preseason game -- then a condensed seaosn.
Her vision is top tier. At the 5:41 mark most reads would have hit the roller but she slung that rock to the top of the key right in the shooters pocket. Can't wait to watch her play in the league now.
Besides Caitlin that obviously everyone wants to comment on the biggest thing I noticed was the speed…even at practice and also the skill level of all the players. Good stuff - and I love how Caitlin is so humble…her teammates will all lover her.
Even the passes that aren’t highlights or don’t look like anything out of the ordinary ARE out of the ordinary. She’s putting the ball right in the shooting pocket of her teammates. And she’s even able to determine the differences between her teammates and where they like to catch the ball and put it exactly where it needs to be. I’m seeing the Fever in August. Excited for it
I think so. Although listen to my post-practice video of Caitlin. She says after a week away, she's ready to get back to basketball and focus on that again. And there's no time needed to get into shape, etc. But a slump seems inevitable because of the schedule -- especially if factoring in Team USA.
@@ScottAgness Alyssa Boston said everyone will hit a wall and have to be carried by their teammates as they play through it. AB said that, for her, she hit that wall after the all-star game last year.
I think a lot of the skills Caitlin has is because she loves the game. She is not a one-horse-show, she shoots, passes, dribbles, penetrates defenses, etc. It' been a long time in any sport that I have seen someone who loves the game so much. I remember one of the old timer MBL players said he would play for free because he loved the game. Now THAT is a real player.
I have heard commentators saying Caitlin would have a hard time in the WNBA because of taller stronger players with 'mom' strength. I believe she will adapt, improvise and overcome. This video proved that.
Even if she never takes a shot , her passing skills are unbelievable.. Her court sense and vision will free up many of her team mates for easier shots . If they try to stop Clark , she’ll find an open team mate . It’s all about winning and shes all that ! Haven’t watched the WNBA for quite a while .. Will now .! Clark is bringing new fire to the league , look at preseason ticket sales ..Teams are finding bigger arenas to play in . Everyone is going to benefit from this influx of ability .
She can dish out the rock better that most male college players. I stopped watching the NBA years ago when it became more about the show than the game. I've been enjoying womens college for years and now for the first time I'll be watching the WNBA. South Carolina, Iowa, Uconn, and other's are really putting out some really good talent. It's a good time to be a fan!
I'm so happy she's here in Indiana. It would be like striking gold if the Pacers drafted a certain 7'4" 300lb Boilermaker. The stars would be aligned for me!
I've noticed that about Caitlin's legs also in Basketbal shorts her legs look Normal size, but when she went up on stage in the draft wearing that white mini dress you could notice how powerful her legs looked.
Even with how incredible her passes already look, imagine when her teammates start to gel a little more with her, and knowing where to be to get the ball from her. I mean, Hannah Stuelke dropped 47 in a game for Iowa- that's what CC can do for you.
Caitlin wasn't hitting as much in this session and most likely because she's obviously in a very different, more demanding and higher paced environment and she's having to re-establish her range and confidence........she acclimating and getting comfortable all over again. But I did notice that after she missed a few shots, she then shifted to passing and making key assists........that is both smart and selfless.
This offense is looking very similar to Iowa's; multiple shooters on the perimeter, multiple ball handlers. rim-run, up tempo, and score in transition.
Yes. It’s a noticeable shift that Caitlin isn’t bringing the ball up Court, and there are even possessions she didn’t touch the ball! Not a LOT. Still notable. It’s Pro now 💪
@@TheXena23 When she's on the floor at the same time as Erica Wheeler, you have two point guards and Erica is the vet. I'm guessing that, for practice, they'll run Caitlin in the shooting guard position just if they need her there. I think she's too small for the forward position on the Fever, so she'll probably rotate between point and shooting guard, mostly point.

Clark had tough time fighting around the great picks those girls make! She needs better defense too! The game is much faster than college indeed! And boy can all those ladies shoot well anywhere! Clark will elevate her game playing with better people as that always happens!
I think they will let CC be her. As they should. She's had so much success doing so. But she will have to adapt some, just like the rest of the team. WNBA is a whole different ball game -- and just 12 players on 12 teams. Best of the best.
@@ScottAgness I think she is all about getting the best opportunity to score, even when passing to teammates. These girls are a lot stronger than her college teammates, so she will not feel the load to do everything by herself. I think she is fine with that.
So much focus was placed on her scoring record that few people noticed that she finished number 3 all-time among women in assists with 1,144. I'll admit to being a little bummed, as a stat fanatic, that she came so close to, but didn't reach 4,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
